God is an expert at language. In fact, the entire cosmos was created by a single Word. But rather than demanding that we understand God’s language, God comes to us and speaks ours. Even more specifically God speaks yours. You have a language that is unique to you, thoughts and words that make you smile on the inside or laugh when no one else does, or hurt and grieve when those around you don’t. I sometimes think that we all expect to hear God speak to us in a language that belongs to someone else, and we discount the possibility that God knows ours. Ours is so common, so ordinary, so usual, that we trivialise it. But why would God, who comes to speak life to us, not speak in our own language?
