Who is Jesus? Most people have some sort of opinion, whether based on fact, fiction or fancy.
The ancient Celtic monk Aidan of Lindisfarne was a fruitful evangelist. His brilliance lay in his ability to ask probing questions, to help people see where God was already present in their lives, and through that, to point them to Jesus.
So too did the apostle Paul, on his visit to Corinth. He says in Acts 17:23: ‘For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship – and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.’
I take a moment and think about my friends, colleagues and family. Who do they think Jesus is? Do I even know? God, help me ask them the question and listen deeply to their answers.
God, I lift up to You those closest to me. Grant me the grace to help them to see where You are already present in their lives, and help me point them to Jesus. I name them in Your presence right now.
